ubuntu 5.10 install

I haven't yet installed ubuntu, but I thought it didn't use root like other distros....?

 

After I install mine, I WANT it to use root, its what I'm used to... So do I need to do something during install, or how do you change it to use root after install... or can you ?

After install

sudo passwd root

 

then type your user password and then the new root password *2

alternatively

wget http://beerorkid.com/automatix/automatix-u..._4.4-1_i386.deb

sudo dpkg -i automatix-ubuntu_4.4-1_i386.deb

 

will instal automatix which set's root password then helps install codec's and non Ubuntu offiical repositories etc.

Although not recommended at all: Some users ask for root access in Ubuntu in a GUI. For that, you need to configure gdm and allow root to log in with gdm (just click on the check box).

:D This thread helped alot because i had a dodgy burn and Ubuntu failed on install, I guess it's the size of the DVD d/load and the huge file size, a bit torrent d/load seems much more stable or even with a d/load manager.
