ianw1974
Trying to get the above card working. It apparently uses kernel module sk98lin. But for some reason, eth0 will not load at bootup and fails. The module is loaded, and working fine. However, I installed Mandriva 2006 and it worked no problems. Using lsmod showed that sk98lin was loaded too, so I'm pretty sure that's what mandriva is using? Any ideas on how to get this card working under Gentoo? arctic
Umm... Is your network card recognized as eth0 or eth1?
scarecrow
Same issue here with many distros, including Gentoo, on my laptop. The kernel module seems being less than perfect. Solution: Get the driver from Marvell site, compile it, and preload "sk98lin". After rebooting, it works fine here.
ianw1974
I've been trying that. First, I installed the machine, and had the module loading in /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6 Module loads, but no eth0, eth1 or anything. Just lo for loopback. So I then applied patch from the asus cd, and it all went on, but still no eth0 device.
scarecrow
Sounds weird. Any warnings/messages while compiling the driver from the Marvell site? And please, before compiling the driver do mind doing some "modprobe -r sk98lin" - else the driver build may fail!
ianw1974
The module wasn't loaded, and no errors. However, this was the driver from the asus cd, and I downloaded from their website, but had no means to copy it over as my floppy drive doesn't work in my work laptop :P I'll copy over on Tuesday when I'm back at work, using my usb floppy drive from home, and hopefully the newer one will do the trick. ianw1974
Applied the patch from syskonnect this morning, but the same response. On boot it comes back with: eth0 does not exist however, the module sk98lin is loaded OK.
ianw1974
As it happens, we've installed Mandriva and set up the proxy server with this since it worked straight from install. We were hoping to keep the system on gentoo, since the mail server was as well, ah, but never mind :P
