I have a DSL 502T and mine works a treat.

First, type the following, and report back info:

su (supply root password when prompted)
ifconfig

copy what you see back here, so we can help further. I need to ensure your PC is getting an IP address from your router.

Did you configure the router to access the internet with your ADSL username and password, etc?

The IP address you typed is the IP address of the router, not the dlink site.

lynchmob

buddy it is the site link!! (not an ip addres)

http://192.168.1.1/ is the site which i type in konqueror... this site is for configuring the connection!

Nope it is the IP address of your router.

In other words you can connect to your router but either:

1) Your router is not connected to the internet...

2) Your router has not exported the default route or is not forwarding youre request...

Eitherway... your linux is set up correctly probably and it is the router needs configuring.

edits:

just downloading the manual but it looks like there are two versions according to firmware version

Yes, if you can connect to 192.168.1.1 you are connecting to your router to be able to configure it.

Therefore you need to check that the wan configuration is set to PPPOA or PPPOE depending on your ISP preferences, and that you have supplied the username and password, and the correct VCI/VPI or LLC settings, again, as supplied by your ISP.

Then you need to set the default route OR remove the proxy settings and just put direct connection to internet. (most likely since the router also does VPN's etc. it might be something more complex) but if you are in the defaults then its likely just you need to set the connection as direct in firefox/konqueror settings.

I think your connection is fine. You can ping google, and you could probably traceroute too.

I think your problem is ipv6 related. Therefore, add this to the bottom of /etc/modules.conf

alias net-pf-10 off

reboot, and then try and access the internet again.

Im presuming you are posting from XP or something on the same router in which case the connection settings are OK... your ADSL light should be on!

If this is the case then since you are connected (google answers the ping) then it is just the settings in Konqueror/Firefox etc.

In Firefox use Edit/preferences - General tab then choose direct.

If this doesn't work try the ping again!

If the ping works and the browser doesn't then we will look further.

(try what Ianw1974 said 1st)
