Arne
Hello Guys, I just downloaded "flightgear" from my 'contrib' on a 2006 Power pack updated yesterday with 'urpmi.update updates' followed by 'urpmi --update --auto-select'. When I click 'flightgear the start process goes as normal although slow and then dies and the game don't start. Urpmi reported bad signatures like everything I have downloaded from 'contrib' for 2006. So I paid no attention to it What is wrong or missing?????? I can post any log you want to help
ianw1974
When you installed it did it install any dependencies? Something else worth trying just to make sure your complete system is up-to-date, and not just normal/security/bug fixes is: urpmi --auto-select --auto this will then update components that aren't normally updated by the "updates". Arne
Hello Ian, Thank's for reply Yes it downloaded one 'lib*' What is the meaning of this???? [root@hutch arne]# urpmi --auto-select --auto medium "Powerpack CD4 (cdrom8)" is not selected Maybe I need to rebuild the database????? ianw1974
Go into Software Media Manager, and see if it has a check mark against it. If not, you can reselect the media, and hopefully the error won't appear.
Arne
Is 'urpmi.update -a' doing the same as 'urpmi --auto-select --auto" ?????
ianw1974
No, the urpmi.update -a updates all your repositories. It doesn't install software updates. The urpmi --updates --auto-select just applies updates, whereas the one I provided looks at all repositories and updates everything, regardless of it being in updates, main, contrib, etc, etc.
Arne
Ian, Following your advice I was able to run 'urpmi --auto-select --auto' After downloading I gor bad signatures like this: [root@hutch arne]# urpmi --auto-select --auto ftp://mdk.linux.org.tw/pub/mandrakelinux/...6-2mdk.i586.rpm ftp://mdk.linux.org.tw/pub/mandrakelinux/...7jpp.noarch.rpm ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/pub/plf/mandra...060plf.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/pub/plf/mandra...3-1plf.i586.rpm ...retrieving failed: curl: (28) FTP response timeoutd = 0 ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/pub/plf/mandra...060plf.i586.rpm ...retrieving failed: curl: (13) Bad PASV/EPSV response: 213 ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/pub/plf/mandra...8-6plf.i586.rpm ...retrieving failed: curl: (13) Bad PASV/EPSV response: 213 ...retrieving failed: curl failed: exited with 13 or signal 0 ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/pub/plf/mandra...3-1plf.i586.rpm ...retrieving failed: curl: (13) Bad PASV/EPSV response: 213 ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/pub/plf/mandra...060plf.i586.rpm ...retrieving failed: curl failed: exited with 19 or signal 0 ...retrieving failed: curl: (19) Given file does not exist The following packages have bad signatures: /var/cache/urpmi/rpms/libstdc++5-3.3.6-2mdk.i586.rpm: Invalid Key ID (DSA/SHA1, Fri 16 Sep 2005 01:17:30 PM ICT, Key ID 445935f878d019f5) Then I tried again because the first one had a time-out error due my bad internet connection. Now a get this: [root@hutch arne]# urpmi --auto-select --auto ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/pub/plf/mandra...060plf.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/pub/plf/mandra...8-6plf.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/pub/plf/mandra...3-1plf.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/pub/plf/mandra...060plf.i586.rpm ...retrieving failed: curl failed: exited with 19 or signal 0 ...retrieving failed: curl: (19) Given file does not exist The following packages have bad signatures: /var/cache/urpmi/rpms/libstdc++5-3.3.6-2mdk.i586.rpm: Invalid Key ID (DSA/SHA1, Fri 16 Sep 2005 01:17:30 PM ICT, Key ID 445935f878d019f5) I must admit I don't understand this. ianw1974
Add --force to the end, I did this to force the install, because it won't install it otherwise. Once you've done that, it should all be bang up-to-date then.
Arne
Ian, Yes it help but one file is missing: [root@hutch arne]# urpmi --auto-select --auto --force ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/pub/plf/mandra...060plf.i586.rpm ...retrieving failed: curl failed: exited with 19 or signal 0 installing update-alternatives-1.8.3-7jpp.noarch.rpm liblame0-3.97-0.b2.0.1.20060plf.i586.rpm libMagick8.4.2-6.2.4.3-1plf.i586.rpm libmpeg4ip0-1.3-1.1.20060plf.i586.rpm rhythmbox-0.8.8-6plf.i586.rpm ImageMagick-6.2.4.3-1plf.i586.rpm libstdc++5-3.3.6-2mdk.i586.rpm from /var/cache/urpmi/rpms ...retrieving failed: curl: (19) Given file does not exist Preparing... ############################################# 1/8: libMagick8.4.2 ############################################# 2/8: libmpeg4ip0 ############################################# 3/8: update-alternatives ############################################# 4/8: liblame0 ############################################# 5/8: rhythmbox ############################################# 6/8: ImageMagick ############################################# 7/8: libstdc++5 ############################################# Installation failed, some files are missing: ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/pub/plf/mandra...060plf.i586.rpm You may want to update your urpmi database So I need to update my media Will this rpm corrupt my nVidea? ianw1974
Update the media if you havent already ran urpmi.update -a. If you have, check in var/cache/urpmi/partial or rpms for the dkms file in case it partially downloaded. You can then remove it, and start the urpmi --auto-select --auto again to see if it downloads it properly. dkms-nvidia is the one for the drivers installed. I tend to remove the dkms-nvidia since they didn't work for me. If your not using it, then: urpme dkms-nvidia and then continue with the auto-select, etc after. aRTee
FYI: I installed and used flightgear on mdv06 - no forcing necessary at any point.... Just thought you'd like to know..
Arne
Ian, [root@hutch arne]# urpmi --auto-selectThe package(s) are already installed So according to this everything is updated, right...??? I tried to start 'flightgear'....No change, it still don't start?????? Then I reinstalled 'flightgear' by 'urpme flightgear' and 'urpmi flightgear' according to this: [root@hutch arne]# urpme flightgearremoving flightgear-0.9.8-1mdk.i586 [root@hutch arne]# [root@hutch arne]# urpmi flightgear ftp://mdk.linux.org.tw/pub/mandrakelinux/...8-1mdk.i586.rpm 99% of 76.9M completed, ETA = --:--:--, speed = 18508 ...retrieving failed: curl failed: exited with 0 or signal 13 The following packages have bad signatures: /var/cache/urpmi/rpms/flightgear-0.9.8-1mdk.i586.rpm: Invalid Key ID (DSA/SHA1, Mon 12 Sep 2005 08:55:58 PM ICT, Key ID 445935f878d019f5) Do you want to continue installation ? I have not tried to reboot yet since I don't believe it will make any difference. Looking at error .......retrieving failed: curl failed: exited with 0 or signal 13 doe's it means that the download is not completed. If that's the case, why did it it not complete??? I recheck again to make sure everything is updated: [root@hutch arne]# urpmi --auto-select The package(s) are already installed [root@hutch arne]# urpmi --auto-select --auto The package(s) are already installed Ian, Thank's for reply. In my opinion the above is not true because '/var/lib/dkms/nvidia/8174-0.1.20060plf/source ->/usr/src/nvidia-8174-0.1.20060plf is not installed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! or if you like installed and 'urpme dkms-nvidia'. This mean even 'urpmi --auto-select --auto' cannot be trusted. aRTee, Thank's for reply. Very interesting and confusing. Reading your last review on 2006 triggered my installation of 'flightgear' It's a massive download for my very variable internet speed. On top of that I did it twice. Reading your installation, configuration and reviews I seldom se you have problems, everything run smoothly. What is your secret????? You have posted heavy comments on 'bad signatures' but concluded that it's OK for now to neglect it. Do you think my bad signatures is of a different kind??? If not, can you please elaborate on why you could install and use 'flightgear' without any force on your mdk06 while I cannot get it running with or without force????? Just for the record I have a clean install of 2006 Power Pack in dual boot but Linux alone on a second hard disk. During this exercise I have learned a lot about 'urpm*' 1. As long as you don't install new software you can use 'urpmi.update updates' followed by 'urpmi --update --auto-select' or similar 2. When you want to install new software always do a 'urpmi.update -a' before you install with 'urpmi --update --auto-select' or as Ian says 'urpmi --auto-select --auto'. Ian, thank you for this, I didn't know this command existed. Finally, I have read on this forum the problem with new driver if you use nvidia graphic card for which a driver is included in 2006 kernel. In my case I use 'Geforce 6200 and Geforce 6800 driver provided by mdk06. Therefore I didn't allow the updated driver 'nvidia-8174-0.1.20060plf'. At the same time I believe 'flightgear' will not run because it needs this update. aRTee, can you confirm this????????? So, what is the safe approach to updated drivers for nvidia Geforce card?????? ianw1974
I don't tend to use packaged nvidia drivers, but I download from Nvidia directly. I don't trust how the rpms are working for nvidia, and who packaged them :P This is based on the fact my system wouldn't work with the rpm packaged by Mandriva, yet I used the same version direct from Nvidia, and it worked a treat. Maybe this could be why your having problems. Although my card was configured correctly, opengl wouldn't work on the mandriva rpms. Try nvidia direct! Arne
Hello guys, Today when I booted my PC in linux my GUY, graphic mode is gone. I believe the reason is due to the update of the nvidia driver namely 'nvidia-8174-0.1.20060plf'. This is certainly not compatible with mdk06. How can I fix this in linux text mode???? Any help will be appreciated since I feel helpless without internet connection. I can certainly us XP as a fall back even though it must be embarrassing for linux. A speedy and safe reply as a christmas present will receiva a big hurra as we say in Norway Ian, You are right a have to update the driver, but how, since I cannot use linux and need to approach nividea on the web. ianw1974
If you have Windows, you can download the driver from nvidia, store on your windows partiton, and then reboot into Mandriva and install the driver under Linux. So, once you've downloaded, say to c:\downloads in Windows, it can then be installed by logging into the CLI, and doing this (make sure you have kernel source installed first). First, make sure that the dkms driver for Mandriva is removed: urpme dkms-nvidia if the file doesn't come back, try this to find exact filename match: rpm -qa nvidia now to copy the driver over: cp /mnt/windows/downloads/nvidia filename /home/arne (or whatever your home directory is the alternative, is to boot into Linux, and download with Linux using: wget http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/1.0-8174/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8174-pkg1.run this will then download the file to Linux without using windows. To install just type: sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8174-pkg1.run
