mystified
I'm having this weird problem with xmms and nobody on the Gentoo board had an answer so I thought I'd run it by you guys. When I go to play a cd in xmms all it sees is my symlink from /mnt/cdrom to hdc. No songlist comes up. I'm using xine to play cds which is fine but this is just bugging me. If I can't get it figured out I'm going to emerge -C xmms and solve the problem. :P
Aomighty
I'm using Debian, but I assume this should work with Gentoo. There is a plugin (for me it's a package called xmms-cdred) that allows you to read CD's. Make sure you have this installed.
jlc
where is your cdrom? dmesg | egrep -i '(cd|dvd)' hda: CRD-8322B, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive hda: ATAPI 32X CD-ROM drive, 128kB Cache, DMA In xmms Preferences/options Audio I/O Plugins Cd Audio Player Config Device ??what is this ?? Hit "Check Drive" If you have more than one drive and it doesn't see the 2nd one, hit "Add drive" Do you have cdrom stuff under /mnt or /media are those linked to anything (device)
mystified
aomighty, I did an emerge -s xmms looking for any xmms plugins and there's nothing like that in gentoo. cybrjackle, under preferences there is /dev/cdrom. And my directory is /mnt/cdrom which is a link to /dev/hdc.

Aomighty
Make sure the permissions are set correctly too. Can you access the CD with normal user permissions from other apps?
