scarecrow
So from one side: Ubuntu is hyped, but on the other, it's all true, if you catch my drift. Gotta agree. Nobody can argue that Ubuntu is a damn good Linux distro, but: 1. Linux newbies can find better than that (Mandriva, PCLInuxOS, Mepis), and 2. Experienced Linux users will prefer either a more advanced Debian flavour (Kanotix, or if they are brave enough pure Debian Sid), or some source based (Gentoo?) or binary based (Arch?) distro. Myself has toyed with (K)Ubuntu quite a lot, and while I like it, it's clearly enough not my dream distro.
lavaeolus
Normally it's not my thing to bash reviews, but there is a difference if the review is objective or just to propagate a predetermined opinion.
aRTee
As long as you're full of praise about mine in public forums! :P
arctic
I finally read teh review and yes, the guy wrote a rather bad review. Rebooting for installing printers... he must be kidding. One of the highlights I found is this: "For example, its use of a nondescript globe rather than the usual Firefox logo had us searching through menus to find a browser that we could have launched from the taskbar." Now, if he can't think of a globe in a taskbar being a webbrowser, then good night, dear world... And think of it: there is a button for the MCC, too! :o Bout Ubuntu: Yes, there is a lot of unjustified hype about it. The distro is fine, no question, and works extremely well on one of my laptops (my extra keys worked out of the box for the first time :)), but it is far from mature imho, especially the installer is very unfriendly for newcomers. And the lack of compatibillity with pure Debian is a pity imho.
JonEberger
what a rough article by a inux not-even-newbie. he is a complete suse fan too. don't get me wrong, suse is a good distro, but geez...i don't know that it's the standard either. arctic, i'm with you on the globe. i think it's a similar icon for it in fc4. lavaeolus
As long as you're full of praise about mine in public forums! Since your reviews are way better, I will do :D Yes in FC there is just a globe too Sidenote 1: tooltips, hover the mouse upon the Icon and you will be told what it is Sidenote 2: I didn't like the globe and changed it by the firefox logo from a Suse install on another box, so there is really no problem, just take some other icons..., but maybe he did not know where to put them (not that it would have been such a problem to find the right place) Icons and styles are just very personal preferences but that's enough bashing for now Edited November 29, 2005 by lavaeolus
