Default browser and mail program

This question must have been asked dozens of times before, but I haven't been able to find the answer.

How do I make Firefox (rather than Konqueror) the default browser and Thunderbird the default mail program? In Netscape 7.2 this is no problem, since everything remains "in the family", so to speak.

MDK 10.1, I should say.

Dude,

You can do it in a couple of ways

1. Create /etc/htmlview.conf and point the executable for firefox like this

X11BROWSER=/usr/bin/firefox_executable

2. If you do not have root access, create .htmlviewrc in your home directory with

X11BROWSER=/usr/bin/firefox_executable

3. Check for more info at mozilla

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Default_browser

:)

Hello payasam.

Open KDE Control Centre, go to Components and then Component Chooser.

In EMail Client choose .....Use a different Email client and run through the routine of selecting Thunderbird. Dont forget to click on apply at the bottom of the page.

The routine is identical to select the Firefox browser in Web Browser on this same page.

Cheers. John.

On 10.1 the Web Browser option probably won't exist.

You'll have to go through file associations, and associate with firefox adding %u to the end of the line to process urls.

Also, run gnome-default-application-properties (even if using KDE), and choose the default web browser here too to be Firefox.

Then to make sure this works every time in your home directory .kde/Autostart make a symlink to gnome-settings-daemon. I think this exists in /usr/lib.
