Getting Firewire and Camcorder working

I've just put in a new (used) motherboard (Gigabyte GA-6BXC) and a new (used) CPU (P3-600E). They are both working fine.

I also installed a VIA brand Firewire card that I have attached to my camcorder (Canon MV700i).

So far I can't seem to make them work. I go into the Mandrake Control Center and it recognises that the Firewire card is there, but there's nothing I can do with it.

I want to be able to copy the camcorder tapes and burn them onto DVDs (I have a DVD-R/RW).

I did a Google search on this site for the relevant info to see if it had been done before, but there was too much info. I did notice that it would be good for me to copy and paste the results of typing lspci -v -v into a console, so here it is:

Downloaded and installed Kino 0.7.3

I go into preferences and find the following information:

IEEE1394

The IEEE1394 Subsystem is not responding

The raw 1394 module must be loaded, and you must have read and write access to dev/raw/1394.
