lrsach01
Just installed 2006 Powerpack and I'm having a few problems with the new "Devices" folder. My usb key and Sansa usb mp3 player ONLY appear in the folder....not on the desktop. And randomly (at least I can't see a pattern yet) all devices dissappear except the Local Network, Network Services, and Samba Shares (None of which I even use yet). Any ideas? lrsach01
Update! OK...I found out why the items dissappear. It's tied to Kat. When I kill kded (or close Kat from the systray), the drive icons go bye-bye. Is there a way to keep these drives available with out the mega-resource hog which is Kat? lrsach01
One more thing....this is replicable. I can clear the icons by killing kded and bring them back by running "kded" from a terminal. :)

AussieJohn
If you don't need Kat then uninstall it. I haven't installed it and after trying it initially and after what I have read about it, I won't be reinstalling it for a long time to come. My devices Folder on the desktop has its icons stay in place all the time and I have not found it necessary to do anything with kded. I do remember that with Kat installed, every darned harddrive partition was shown including all the unmounted ones so it was a mess and confusing. Now it is only the 2 optical devices, floppy and the only mounted windows fat32 partition. There is also 3 folders for Samba and internet connects which seem to be empty Cheers. John. lrsach01
Thanks Aussie! I was a little concerned about just removing Kat if it was so tied to the Devices folder. BUT I removed it and restarted the session...and viola! No resource hog and my Devices folder is intact. THANKS!
