Aomighty
And if you use KDE, there's always kaudiocreator, or (in the newest versions if you have kio-plugins installed), just type audiocd:/ in a konqueror window and it will auto-mount and look up with the CDDB. scarecrow
I know this is an old thread, but currently the best way to rip audioCD's is Exact Audio Copy (for windows) via wine (it works flawlessly with wine 0.9.10 or newer, without the need for kernel ide-scsi emulation). Its advantages over any Linux ripper (or any windows one as well!) are too many to mention here.
AussieJohn
Since you mention rippers in Windows. I have found CDEX to be streets ahead of any other Windows app for that job and it is also GPLd. In Linux you can't do better than Grip. I use packages that are designed for their explicit purpose rather than packages that have the ripper part as a sideline. Too many packages do the Windows thing of shoving in everything under the sun, including features that you don't use, don't want to use and may never ever use. The two packages I named do the job brilliantly and have done so for years. Cheers. John.
scarecrow
Both cdex and grip (or any other ripper that uses cdparanoia for ripping) have a major disadvantage: Drive's read cache cannot be disabled, so when a read error occurs the data you pick aren't reliable at all. Exact Audio Copy is free (cardware) but not GPL, and makes cdex, or audiograbber, or {put-your-fav-ripper-here} look like junk.
satelliteuser083
I've downloaded ripperX-2.7.0.tar.gz from sourceforge.net/project/, but haven't installed anything from a .gz before, and don't know how to proceed. Could someone give me a tip, please (especially, do I have to perform this as root)? Thanks
Mhn
ripperx is in mandriva 2007's repositories, no need to compile it yourself if it's not nessecary. Just do a urpmi ripperx as root to install it (if you're using mdv2007). Edited December 13, 2006 by Mhn

satelliteuser083
Did what I should have done in the first place, and installed ripperx via the MCC (dead easy, really ). However, I still need an MP3-player; mp3blaster doesn't seem to like my setup. Any suggestions, anyone? Thanks
