ianw1974
Also, remove that search line from the /etc/resolv.conf You can do this just by editing the file, or when you go through the config, make sure the box with the search name workgroup in is blank. This usually causes problems, and is best removed. Also, leave zeroconf blank as well.

ianw1974
Those settings look OK just make sure that the static IP you have allocated isn't going to get issued by your DHCP server. I personally, as you have the range 2-40, would set the static to 50 instead of 13, that way you guarantee it's not in the same range. Your DNS is pointing to the router, this is OK, but you still have the search domain "WORKGROUP". To remove this: su (supply root password when prompted) vi /etc/resolv.conf press i move the cursor using arrow keys to beginning of search line and press DEL until the whole line has been deleted, and just leaving your DNS server. If that fails to work, then edit the /etc/resolv.conf again and put the ISP's DNS servers instead.
photoworks
it still does not work. i set the network to static ip with the settings as shown in the following picture : now here the etc/resolve.conf : nameserver 194.168.8.100 nameserver 194.168.4.100 # nameserver 192.168.2.1 # ppp temp entry Does it matter that i have a wireless connection (i included the settings for my access point as well in the other pics, just in case ) Edited September 27, 2005 by photoworks

ianw1974
I tried this morning, but can only assume your system was shut down :P Glad you got the IP sorted eventually, strange though you had to make a change on the access point. Unless, because the IP you were using was in it's DHCP range, that it wouldn't allow access until it was outside of the DHCP range. Now you've changed to 15, this would allow the router to show that 13 is now spare.

My system was indeed shut down this morning. i usually turn it on around 6.00 pm.
ianw1974
:D glad it's all working fine. I think your router knew you were trying to use an IP that was in it's DHCP range, and blocked you from accessing the internet because the router knew it didn't allocate it to you! :P
