Shorewall Configuration

Firstly, any imput is appreciated....

Last night i installed Shorewall, from one of the three installation discs and then typed "services shorewall start" into a terminal as root, upon doing this the internet conection was immediately stoped by shorewall.

typing the words "services shorewall stop" brings back the internet conection.

all the folders that contains shorewall configuration files are all locked and cant be accessed even when with the security level at standard, the folders have the locked key symbol on them.

i have one computer with a single internrt conection with an ADSL USB modem (wired) that just needs a basic firewall configuration setup, though we all know there isnt anything basic in linux :-)

You must configure shorewall...just edit the configurations files with a command line editor or run a konsole and type

su [enter]

enter your root password [enter]

type konqueror in the command line

a konqueror window will popup

goto /etc/shorewall

now i must edit some files namely:

interfaces

zones

rules

policy

please read the comments on that files...after you read it u can configure those files

to check if those files are fine in a matter of sintax,is advised to run the shorewall check command as root in a konsole,if everything is ok you can issue a service shorewall start

Hope it helped... B)

Cheers...
