frosterrj
Getting a new machine which has the intel 945g express/950 integrated media/graphics chips and not sure if these would be a problem to install the LE2005 or newer 2006 betas. No linux drivers are listed on the intel site, but not sure they would be anyway. Can anyone confirm this chipset is ok for Mandriva install? Thanks, Robert
ianw1974
There's every chance it would most likely use the Intel 915 modules within Mandriva. As it's a newer card, the minimum I would load with be LE2005 and go from there. I'd simply just try it. Install LE2005, and see what happens. The important thing is when installing, is to configure the graphics card during the installation process. Towards the end you're prompted with a screen with all the parameters. The graphics will most likely show "Not Configured". At this point, just click configure, go with Intel 915, and then see what happens after that. Good luck! frosterrj
ok, when I get it from dell, well see what happens. And to think I skipped the ATI 128mb PCI Express upgrade thinking it would be even more trouble. Not sure it was the best decision, in retrospect. THe club LE2005 cd's have ATI kernels.... oh well...... What are my chances that the partitions will get dorked during install since the only exisitng one is NTFS? ianw1974
Easiest way is to make sure the disk has been checked for errors, and then defrag afterwards. This will at least minimise the amount of problems you may encounter. During installation of Mandriva, you can then resize the partition, use the custom option so you can modify and then resize the Windows partition, most likely marked as /dev/hda1. Then you can create the partitions you require after that, where Mandriva will install to, etc, and carry on through the install.
frosterrj
Well, using Knoppix and Ubuntu live I had a few issues: 1) knoppix didnt seem to have the e100 lan driver 2) Ubunt used the i915 video driver at my 1280x1024 resolution, but left about a 1/2 inch black vertical band on the right side of my monitor. I ran lspci -v and -vv and most info came back as unkown device: Not sure if its worth the hassle when 2006 comes out to install since it probably wont have properly set up xorg for my chipset or monitor (dell 19" flat panel). Any ideas??? ianw1974
What version of knoppix was it that you have? There are some later versions, the CD version I think finished about 3.7 or 3.9. Ubuntu, not sure about never used it. Only Mandrake/Mandriva, but you should normally be OK. Did you try resolution at 1024x768 and see how that appeared? Ubuntu, not sure about never used it. Only Mandrake/Mandriva, but you should normally be OK. Did you try resolution at 1024x768 and see how that appeared? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> For once we got the other side of the coin with Linux. I installed 10.1 CE onto Dell GX270 which has the e1000 Intel 865 Graphics Card and the install identified the chip and 10.1 CE took 1024x 768 and 16million with no problems at all. Same with LE2005. I dual boot this box with Win 98SE and had a lot of problems getting the correct display on the Windoze OS had to download pack of drivers from Intel to get it working.
