I have Mandrake 10.1 and I made updates using urpmi. When I tried to boot, the alsa service is hanging and even if I wait nothing happens. When I go to interactive boot and ask alsa not to start, the rest of the boot process goes well and I get the computer to work.

Here my computer:

Intel P4 1.7Ghz

Asus P4b motherboard

SB Live 5.1 w/ AC97

Maxtor 40Gb hd

512 Sdram

Nvidia GForce 2 MX 400

Thank you

Christophe

After you've booted without starting alsa, have you ran alsaconf to reconfigure the soundcard?

To do it:

su (supply root password when prompted)
alsaconf

Post back how you get on.
