Thanx a lot for your quick reply. It's awesome if there is still intelligent people that want to help the weak! :thanks:

Another problem evolved out of this answer.

for some reason I am not getting a reply from my Winxp pc.

It does not ping out or give a bad reply, it gives noooooo response at all.

I have tried both the terminals and there is no reply.

Thanx again for your reply.

Do you have firewall enabled on your Windows XP machine? This might be why it's not replying to ping. You can go into firewall config on Windows PC, and then enable ICMP options without enabling anything else.

Sorry,

Tried to even switch off the Firewall totally on both sides.

This had no effect. There is still no response

I hope I understand correctly about the MASK. Subnet mask.

Are these the same thing?????

Both subnet masks are 255.255.255.0

Thanx again for all the responses

Yes, I was talking about the subnet mask, sorry if I wasn't clear.

Do both machines have a DHCP-assigned IP or a static one?

Could you post the output from an 'ifconfig' (linux) and an 'ipconfig' (windows)?

Thank you very much

No problem. I just wanted to make sure I do understand you correct.

Once again, just to make sure I am still with you. It is the IP of the TCP/IP settings.

The Windows XP pc 192.168.1.101

The Mandrake 10.1 pc 192.168.1.103

Preferred DNS 196.25.1.11 on both pcs.

I have wireless internet set up on the same lan that connects via my 8port switch to my Server PC. The ip must be static in order for the server to connect to the antena.

did u solve this matter?

if ping doesnt  work at all it could be a basic connection issue. Isolate and eliminate everything one by one.

Sorry for not replying.

I started another topic that isolated the problem and I was helped.

I had to change stuff in my console.

Thanks a million for all the help.

Have a great day.
