Hello everybody,

I installed Mercury Messenger in Mandriva 2005 LE. It is supposed to have webcam support but I need to unzip some files in the ${JAVA_HOME}/lib/i386 directory.

Which directory is that?

I did a

$echo ${JAVA_HOME}

but I had no answer.

I hope somebody can help me.

Regards.

The java runtime environment files are probably in subdirectories off /usr/java. For example, mine is shown below:

$ cd /usr/java

$ ls -al

drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 Jul 16 15:10 jre1.5.0_04/

Then there will be a lib/i386 sub-directory off that.

If that doesn't work, repost and we'll give you other commands to locate it.

Devries,

I am chilean so my native language is not english. I might be wrong but I guess I do need to install some extra files. What I want to do is to send webcam.

So I am trying to follow the instructions in the following link,

http://www.mercury.to/index.php?page=Wiki&...e=InstallingJMF

Am I right or not?

Regards.

Sorry you're right. You need to install the JMF files to send a webcam stream (been ages since I did that :) ).

Use the torrent to download the files. Then copy the VidConf-libs.jar and JavaLibs-windows.jar to /home/<your name>/Mercury/lib (only if you have installed Mercury in /home/your name of course).

Then extract NativeLibs-linux.zip and copy them to /home/your name/Mercury/jre/lib/i386. (if you have installed Mercury without a jre copy the files to /usr/java/jre1.5xxx/jre/lib/i386 That's it.

Open Mercury, option, settings, webcam and follow the instructions.

Good luck

Do you have the Java Runtime Environment installed? If not, go to http://www.java.com where you can download and install. Follow their instructions.

If you have java installed, do the following to find it.

$ su

<enter root password>

#updatedb

#locate java | grep bin

This should show you the directory where the java runtime files are installed. If the above locate command returns nothing, then you probably don't have it installed.

Devries,

I extracted the files at my home directory but it was no good at all.

I can enter Mercury, but if I go to Global Settings---->Webcam-------->JMF Wizard , it says

VidConf-libs.jar file found.: Passed

VidConf-libs.jar in classpath: Passed

JavaLibs-linux.jar file found: Passed

JavaLibs-linux.jar in classpath.: Passed

Native library files for Linux found: Failed

So It cannot find the Native Linux Libraries. In the WIKI for Mercury messenger there is an instruction which I think is the key and I do not understand. I would really appreciate if you could have a look at it http://www.mercury.to/index.php?page=Wiki&...ibraryLocations

I am trying to do Option 2 with no success.

PS: I hope you have liked Chile.

Regards.

The native Linux files comes in a zip file. You need to extract the files. Have you done that?

If it doesn't work install Java. Download a rpm from java.com or add mcnl (a urpmi repository (see the tips and tricks forum)) and install java with urpmi. That will install java in /usr/java. After that just copy the files and start the Mercury version without JVM.

PS: Chili was very nice :)

Devries,

I finally installed JRE through URPMI and mcnl repository. The Webcam wizard says every file was found.

Unfortunately my webcam is a Genius Videocam NB which has a V4l2 driver. I could make it work on Gnomemeeting after a lot of struggle :wall: .

Does Mercury have v4l2 support? or will I have to get a new webcam :unsure: ??

Devries,

I cannot find the /dev/v4l2 :huh2:

If I do a

$
[piure@localhost ~]$ xawtv -hwscan
This is xawtv-3.94, running on Linux/i686 (2.6.11-6mdk)
looking for available devices
port 69-69
   type : Xvideo, image scaler
   name : ATI Radeon Video Overlay

/dev/video0: OK                         [ -device /dev/video0 ]
   type : v4l2
   name : SN9C10x PC Camera
   flags:  capture

Do you have any idea why Mercury Messenger is not able to see the camera? If I use the JMF wizard it says there is no video capture device present.

regards.
