jimw
Just this morning I learned how to switch keyboard layouts through the KDE GUI. Unfortunately, the layout I really want at this stime is not there, that is, Kazakh, (language code kk). I've been through Google, and the few things I see on the specific topic are beyond my level of expertise. Does anyone here know anything about the subject? Thanks, JimW [moved from Everything Linux by spinynorman]
devries
Keyboard properties are handled by Xorg so you need to edit the xorg.conf. Change the: Option "XkbLayout" "xxxxxxx" to Option "XkbLayout" "kk"

Change the: Option "XkbLayout" "xxxxxxx" to Option "XkbLayout" "kk" <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Okay, this is not my problem. what I need is a Kazakh layout to put in there. I may be forced to make one myself, modelling it on the various other ones I've found. Thanks, JimW
devries
KDE doesn't give all layout options. Look in the MCC, hardware, keyboard for more options. I noticed a Kyrgish layout. Perhaps it's close enough for your needs. Otherwise: http://hektor.umcs.lublin.pl/~mikosmul/com...ayouts-xkb.html
alexpank
The other thing you could do is install SCIM. From memory, it has a Kazakh IME. I'm no user of Kazakh, so I can't tell you how well it works, but it might be good short-term solution. Should be in either main or contrib repository, and you might need scim-tables too - try googling for scim to see what turns up.
