hi all just installed linux like 30mins ago lol and waaas wondering what antiviru/spyware/firewall can i use in linux also when u dl stuff off the net whatrs the best program to "open" the said file with ???

 

as u all can tell im complete nebie to this so any other suggestion or comments about good stuff to do to make everything better is ok too

I have yet to hear of, see, or otherwise encounter one piece of spyware for Linux. It's really non-existant at this point.

 

There exist, at most, 4 or 5 virii for Linux - none of which any current Linux system is vulnerable to.

 

Firewalls, are - of course - a good thing in any operating system. You already have one, if you are running Mandrake/Mandriva. You can access it through the Mandrake Control Center, under Internet (or something of that nature). The defaults are usually good, with everything blocked.

 

Another thing that you won't have to worry about in Linux that you did in the old Windows world: defragmenting your hard drive.
