Few N00bie problems.

Okay Im having a few problems thus far with my new install

 

1) I installed Gaim, successfully. but where does it put the file! I cant find the file to run gaim anywhere! :-S

 

2) the apostrophe doesnt work on my keyboard.

1. alt+F2 and then "gaim" should work- does it?

2. This is an xorg configuration problem, either keyboard related, or locales related, or both. Can you tell us your default locales and copypaste here your /etc/X11/xorg configuration file? (or just the parts of it related to keyboard settings).

yup alt+F2 works,

 

any idea what directory it install it too though? for futher application installations?

 

 

and I Fixed my keyboard btw :-P. I Just changed it from "us keyboard (international)" to --> "us keyboard"

Open a console and type:

 

which gaim

 

and hit enter. It will tell you where it is.

You could also use menuconfig to update your menu and hopefully gaim will show up, otherwise add it yourself. -OR- set gaim to start whenever you login - that's what I do.

How did you install gaim? If you did so with the Mandriva control center, and you are curious about where the files are, the following command should give you the list:

rpm -ql gaim

In Linux executables are usually installed to /usr/bin or /usr/local/bin, if you install from package of course.
