smileychgo
How do I keep Kopete from starting up when I boot up? I tried to find where the start up programs are kept but I couldn't. Thanks, Smiley
scarecrow
Do you have a kopete.desktop file at your /home/smiley/.kde/Autostart directory? If you do, delete it. If you don't have this, edit the file /home/smiley/.kde/share/config/kopeterc - Find a line like "Autostart=True" and change it to "Autostart=False". smileychgo
Hi scarecrow, I looked in those places and I did not see either. In the kopeterc file, there was no line that had autostart=, but there was an autoconnect=false. Any other suggestions? smiley

alexpank
This might be an obvious thing to suggest, but do you shut down kopete before you turn off your computer? I use Kopete on KDE3.2 (er, I think) under Mandrake 10.1, and if I quit Kopete before I turn off the computer or log out, it doesn't come back up the next time unless I ask it to. Same thing with Kscd and emacs and stuff, too. HTH (and apologies if you've tried this already) alex
smileychgo
Hi Alex, Thanks for you reply. I just deleted the accounts and it doesn't start up anymore. I'll just use GAIM. Smiley
ianw1974
You'll also find that if you leave GAIM open when you shut down your computer, that GAIM will re-launch at startup as well. There is a way to stop this from happening. What you need to do is this: System/Configuration/KDE/Components/Session Manager (or find under Configure My Desktop and Components/Session Manager). Change the option "Restore Previous Session" to "Start with an empty session". That way, if you leave Kopete or GAIM open when you shut down, it'll start with a new clean session, and then you can launch all the apps as necessary. The only downside is, that all apps that run at startup, will not load unless you add them to the home/username/.kde/Autostart directory. Once you add the apps you want to load at startup in here (ln -s command to add symbolic link), then you'll be set to go!
