Gnome Panel Menu

Recommended Posts

Greetings!

Is there an easy way to add custom menu(s) to the gnome Panel, like the 'Application', 'Places' and 'System' but where you can name your own and "fill" it with application shortcuts as you fit? If there aren't an easy way can anyone show me the hard way? :cheesy:

I was thinking making my gnome desktop a MacOS wannabe.

back to d3a?

you seem to be using the wrong size panelbg

what size is your panel? (rt-click>properties)

you want something like this?

have patience....very large, or imageshack is slow

-You have to make a panel background with the text on it and set it with the rt-click>properties>background tab. Make sure the panelbg in the gtk theme and the panel background are the same height/made from the same image as below.

-add a drawer to the panel where the text is (note the screenie above only shows the text. There are no drawers, as so no ugly drawer arrow) and use a completely transparent image as the icon for the drawer.

made from the d3a/gtk-2.0/panelbg36.png

rt-click>save as>edit in gimp

if you need another size, you'll have to make if (scale it) in gimp

Many thanks, bvc :)

Oh, the panel size I'm using is size 30 (standard is 25). I don't know what's happen to it. I reinstalled my OS and downloaded the d3a and it shows up like this. Never happen before with d3a...

If you don't see an arrow, there's no drawer. There's no way to get rid of it as of now. I doubt that'll change, at least not anytime soon.

Drawers don't/can't have text 'in' them. If you mean on the panel background, use gimp. That gimp file already has 2 text layers (black/white) that say AI's Menu. You can move them around to position them (or remove the white), change the text, and duplicate them to change the text for another menu. Then 'save as' a png.

I rarely use the menu so I don't know much about the issue. If I'm correct, there was an app made to edit the menu, then everyone started switching to the new freedesktop stardard. I don't know if the app has been rewritten or not.
