USB Detection

I've tried to solve this before without success. I'm trying to get digikam to work but Mandriva won't detect any usb ports. Not for printers, usb mouse or a card reader.

I have a dual boot with Xandros 3. Xandros doesn't have this problem. I have checked to see that hotplug is enabled in MCC>System>Enable System Sevices. I don't know where to go from here. Thanks in advance.

I does see my card reader and haldaemon, harddrake and messagebus are running. Netplugd is not running.

Hmm.. it seems everything is loaded properly.

Now, it is possible that it is detected, just nothing is being done about it. Maybe you need to turn off APIC and Local APIC. Have you tried booting with

linux noapic nolapic

At the Lilo Prompt?

Since everything looks normal in your Mandriva2005-LE and from my experience there were next to no usb problems with Mandriva2005-LE, I suspect that your bios still has legacy usb support selected and /or plug & play is still selected.

During the start of the boot up process, repeatedly hit the Del key to enter your bios (this advice only in case you have not done it before), search through and deactivate legacy usb support and also Plug & Play.

Not doing this prevents or hinders harddrake from detecting hardware devices properly.

Hope it helps. Cheers. John.

Are you completely updated? That should be your first move. I had a problem with one of my USB ports on my laptop, and just tried recently and it now works. I'm assuming this was an update issue that solved this problem. I didn't do any else to fix it. I read the KDE and LE2005 are supposed to handle the USB situation better than the Mandrake 10 did. Download all the updates.

Make sure that haldaemon, harddrake, messagebus are also enabled, as I had problems if these were disabled.

Brilliant, thanks for that tip. None of my USB devices were being detected, and I discovered that haldaemon was not running. Fired it up and Hey Presto, all the USB devices imiediately appeared in the "Devices" folder!
