ianw1974
See if switching runlevels help. Get to a prompt, and su and supply root password, then type init 3. Then follow afterwards, again, su and root password and type init 5. Does that help any? What other error messages do you get?
arctic
take a look at your /var/log folder for error messages and take a look at your user home directory. is there an error file? (you need to activate "show hidden files" in order to see it in konq/nautilus)

Arne
Hello Guys. I try think of what is wrong. Mandriva 10.1 have only the driver mwave and not the control program 'mwavem' installed and it is not included at mdk 10.1 official (6 cd) at all. I downloaded it from "rpmseek.com" 'mwavem-2.0-1.i386.rpm' and installed it, dependensies was not shown. On the website it mentioned some files as required. The closest files I could fin in mdk mentioned it was needed for developers. My question is can mandriva 10.1 tell if dependensies is needed on any rpm file found outside mandriva environment. Just after I installed the mentioned 'wavem*.rpm', I was close to get it work. wvdial.conf discovered it as ttyS1 with speed all the way up to 115. 'Setserial' is not included in the Mandriva default install. I searched the LinuxQuestion.org and there I was advised to run "set serial" (with space). Further search advice me correctly to run "urpmi setserial" (adviced by ianw1974) and my distro had it. I cannot tell exactly when the kde crashed. Maybe because I run the 'set serial'. What happen in the system when you run 'set serial' contrary from 'setserial'???? After running 'setserial' I made a symbolic link 'ln -s /dev/tty0 /dev/modem instead of ln -s /dev/ttyS1 /dev/modem. To correct this I run 'rm -f /dev/modem' and 'ln -s /dev/ttyS1 /dev/modem. The next day when I run wvdial.conf after "modprobe mwave" and "mwavem start". Now I am told that wvdial cannot find the modem starting with tty0 (because it's a link to it) and then tty1 but no luck. What is the difference between ttyx and ttySx, sorry stupid question. Maybe it's the Mwavem which must be reinstalled, maybe rpm I downloaded is not compatible with kde, of yes I have to find another rpm. or....in short, I am lost.
