I installed the latest ati drivers, everything went ok, I checked my xorg.conf file and the driver specified is "fglrx", checking dmesg it gives this:

[fglrx] module loaded - fglrx 8.14.13 [Jun  8 2005] on minor 0
[fglrx] Kernel AGP support doesn't provide agplock functionality.
[fglrx] AGP detected, AgpState   = 0x1f000a0b (hardware caps of chipset)

[fglrx] total Inv = 0
[fglrx] total TIM = 0
[fglrx] total FB  = 0

but then this:

[manu@localhost ~]$ fglrxinfo
display: :0.0  screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.5 Mesa 6.2.1)

Phantom,

I tried MANY distros and could not get my ATI to work. I finally got it working, and after all the different methods and experiments I think it all boiled down to making sure I had the RIGHT source for my kernel also. I tried for over two months to get it working; and finally got the RIGHT source for my MDKLE2005 and voila...it worked.

Hi Phantom,

Had similar problems as you trying to get ATI to work. In the end, on the system concerned, I now have MDV LE2005, and ATI working properly, BUT, without the ATI drivers - I'm using the ones supplied with LE2005.

How I got it to work, was I installed LE2005, then made sure I had mesa installed and added the:

Section "DRI"

Mode 0666

EndSection

to xorg.conf, and then it worked a treat. I've not dared to install the ATI drivers in case it stops it from working. I did try them on 10.0 with XFree86, and I just couldn't get it to work, no matter having all the above in place. It was only when I went to LE2005, that it worked fine. My FPS at present is 1200fps or so. I don't know if it would be better using the ATI drivers, as don't want to break it when it's working. The card I use is an ATI Radeon 9250.
