devries
Mandriva LE2005 comes with dmix enabled as default. This means you can hear sound from multiple applications at the same time. The only problem is that applications that do not have alsa support can not use these default settings. Skype uses oss and when you try and start a conversation when Amarok is playing you get an error. The solution for this problem is to install 'aoss' (urpmi aoss). Now you can talk with your friends and listen to your music at the same time. Is there nothing you can not do with Linux? :) PS. If the default settings don't work you need to edit the .asoundrc. Use this website for help. PPS.Thanks Iph for pointing out that the defaults work fine :)
iphitus
As a note: 1.0.9 of the alsa drivers comes with dmix enabled by default, and already configured to work with aoss.
