booting MBR problem / keyboard

Hi all!

I'm having a problem when booting up my quantum 40gb 7200rpm.

I have 2 OS: win2k & mdk9

The problem is not the bootloader because It happens with lilo and xosl www.xosl.org

When I just turn on the pc the bootloader works fine. But If I'm in some OS (independent) and then I restart the pc the bootloader won't work properly.

It ignore any keypress (to choose wich OS I want) and load the default OS (in my case, win2k). So it loads win2k but when explorer starts it have no keyboard and no mouse. (maybe its a windows problem)

But what is really annoying me is the fact that the bootloader don't work at second time booting (it will work properly only if I reset the pc)

I already disabled BIOS MBR protection but don't helped.

What should I do?

It looks like the bios doesn't see the keyboard (which then continues in w2k) upon reboot.

What if you set lilo to boot to mdk9 by default, does it then also not have keyboard and mouse?

Do you have a usb keyboard and mouse?

Have you checked bios settings? If you can't select things in the bootloader menu, it seems your bios doesn't work right...

cannonfodder:

I dont use 2 bootloaders. I was just testing one and other. now I'm using lilo

aRTee:

i don't have usb keyb/mouse

I made a clear CMOS and reconfigured the BIOS but it still bugging.

Everything is fine about using keyb/mouse. Maybe bugging is something at mbr.

It boots fine only the first time.

It have been occurring since a copuple days ago.

What could be the cause of this annoying problem?
