Here's how its working so far internally using IP address fine, performs as expected externally it all falls down. im using a no-ip.com farwarder but even when i put in my IP address i still get the login box for my router when i do http://ip address when i do ftp://ip address i get 503 login failed. On my router i have set a virtual server with port 21 UDP to my ip address enabled the ftp server option so im stuck as to whats missing? ianw1974 Posted May 28, 2005 Report Share Posted May 28, 2005 Normally, you should only need to enable port forwarding for port 21 to the IP address of your machine, rather than configuring a virtual server. Unless that is the equivalent option on your router?!? When you do http, you will get the router, as it comes in on port 80. You'll probably want to disable this, or change the port that the http config util runs on to prevent people accessing your router! Or, just turn it off, so that no-one can connect from the WAN side of the router. Do you have a firewall running on your machine? Have you checked it's enabled in here? Port 21 is TCP and UDP for FTP, I did a quick google for it, and it shows both. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
scarecrow Posted May 28, 2005 Report Share Posted May 28, 2005 It's rather unlikely to get your FTP working at PORT (active) mode behind a router. You have to set PASV mode, and then port forward the main handshaking/communication TCP port (typically 21, but you can use another one to avoid scanners and such things), PLUS a range of TCP ports, say 21,000 to 21,100, for the data I/O. How many ports you want to open? It depends on the traffic you are expecting to have, and/or the maximum users connected. Most good FTP server software allows defining both the connection port and the PASV data transfer port range. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
