ianw1974
I have found a user named "nobody" on my system. I've no idea how this got here. How can I remove it? Why would it have appeared? Please help!
Guest anon
"nobody" is usually used for ftp servers etc. Just like games, rpc, ftp, rpm, shutdown, bin, sync etc. No real need to delete it, its harmless.
ianw1974
OK, I hadn't noticed it before, so I wondered how it got there!! Many thanks for your reply.
adamw
It's actually a security feature and not a security problem, so you definitely don't want to delete it. It's a very unprivileged user, and all server processes that can work in such a limited environment are run as that user, limiting the damage they could do if compromised.
