k6h
I believe it is the cause of 1 sec. sound delay in games, but I don't know how to disable it.
devries
Comment it out in $HOME/.asoundrc. :)
k6h
I should give you more details - dmix is enabled by default in LimE2005 (if soundcard doesn't support hardware mixing); I have not created ./asoundrc at all.
devries
Then it is probably some file in /etc/.... Look for it there. Or create your own asoundrc in $HOME. It will overrule the system settings.
k6h
release-notes.txt Sound multiplexing with ALSA ---------------------------- Now, applications that use the ALSA api for playing sound will automatically use the dmix plugin by default on sound cards that do not support hardware mixing. Thus, such applications will always be able to play sound simultaneously. Note that if an application uses the OSS emulation for playing sound with an ALSA driver, it'll get exclusive access to the sound card, thus excluding all other apps. What's more, the dnsoop plugin is also set up, thus allowing several applications to record simultaneously from the same sound card Last but not least, the softvol plugin is used for codecs without volume controls (eg: Azalia/intel HD audio) so that one can alter sound volume on cards that do not support it Edited April 19, 2005 by k6h

k6h
cmi9739 http://www-old.epox.nl/english/products/mo...oard/8rda3i.htm [Onboard sound, 6 channel CMedia C9739a Audio Supports Digital SPDIF and software AC-3] there has to be another way - creating asoundrc is too complicated Edited April 19, 2005 by k6h
devries
Don't worry. Other people have done it for you: http://mandrakeusers.org/lofiversion/index.php/t24094.html To make sure you can use that one open a console, log in as root and type: lsmod and check if the same modules (=drivers) are being used.
