aspguru
Hi guys, I followed this link to update my KDE to 3.4: http://mandrakeusers.org/index.php?showtopic=24182&st=0 step 1: urpmi.addmedia thacs.rpms http://anorien.csc.warwick.ac.uk/mirrors/thac/10.1/RPMS with hdlist.cz step 2: urpmi kdebase Installation is successful ... until I rebooted the machine, there are tons of users adm, bin, daemon ... and of course me. After I clicked my name and typed in the password, I was bounced back to the login screen after a few flashes. Then I tried to login in with ctr+alt+f1 to text mode and typed in startkde, still not successful, the error msg is like this: xsetroot: unable to open display ' ' set unable to open display ' ' I figured that maybe i need to change a few lines in the figurationfile, what do you guys think? aspguru
well, it's really strange. AFter playing with it for two hours (on FRIDAY night!), I made it work. Just start to init 3 without starting X, and typed startx... yahoo~ here comes the kde 3.4! I think I really learned something for the past week's struggle with mdk... or I am just lucky this time. :)
devries
If you had searched the board for 2 minutes you would have found the answer :)
Maxplayer14
You may need to update again. I didn't have that problem when i upgraded. I didn't have the looping login problem, but I installed GDM which fixed that.
