Guest Lexa
Just installed Mandrake 10.1 and everything works fine except sound. When I reboot/restart my system the sound card is not recognized. However when I do a second reboot everything works fine. This seems to be consistent - takes 2 reboots in order to get sound. I'm a new (less than a week) old Linux user, so be gentel with your answers. Thanks!!!
arctic
hi there and welcome aboard. :) could you please tell us, which kind of sound card you are using? oh.. and try the search tool at the top of the page. maybe you will find an answer using it in a hurry, if you type in stuff like "+<your sound card name> +recognize". ;)
Guest Lexa
Sound card that I have is: NVidia Corp. NForce Audio Codec and the driver that was automatically picked by the installation program is: snd-intel 8x0 I tried the search and read bunch of sound related posts but cound not find anything that matches my problem. Thanks again.
Guest Lexa
Still trying to figure this out... This only happens when I boot from Windows into Linux. When rebooting from Linux back into Linux the sound card works every time. But going from Windows I need the second reboot. Would modifying these lines in etc/modprob.conf help??? THANKS!!! remove snd-intel8x0 /sbin/modprobe -r snd-pcm-oss; /sbin/modprobe --first-time -r --ignore-remove snd-intel8x0 install snd-intel8x0 /sbin/modprobe --first-time --ignore-install snd-intel8x0 && { /sbin/modprobe snd-pcm-oss; /bin/true; }
Smorgje
This is just an idea, I don't know for sure if I'm right... But I thought I read something about installing nForce drivers from nVidia's site... You might find your answer there.
adamw
Windows doesn't always release hardware properly on a warm reboot, I've noticed that before. One workaround may be to do a *shutdown* (not a reboot) when you're leaving Windows.
