toxic
I do not have any of those two files. When I try to get to the status file I can only get to this point “/proc/driver/” /driver/ is empty. And inside /var/log/ there is no file name XFree86.0.log
daniewicz
If you do not have /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status then the driver was not correctly installed. With regard to the other file. Sorry, my mistake. Do you have /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
toxic
I tryed to install the nvidia driver again but the problem stil remains. Yes I do have a "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" what should I do with it? But I still don't have a "/proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status" file??????
VeeDubb
you said that you are getting the nvidia logo on boot. Is this still correct? If so, at what point are you getting it? Are you seeing an nvidia logo just after you press the power button, or is it just before the desktop loads? Also, what is the EXACT filename of the nvidia driver you're trying to load? Last, try this: When you get to lilo (that's the boot loader that asks you about things like linux, linux nofb and failsafe) hit escape. you should be taken to a text prompt that lists all of those options where you can type one of them in. What I want you to type is 'linux 3' That will boot you into a console. Then, just log in as yourself, and enter the command 'startx' Hopefully, when that fails, it will return you to a screen with a usefull eror message on it, let us knowwhat it says. daniewicz
Yes I do have a "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" what should I do with it? Does it look like there are any errors being reported in it?
toxic
To VeeDubb. I get the nVidia logo just before the desktop loads. The nVidia driver name is "NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7174-pkg1.run" Also when I type startx it just goes into the desktop inviroment and then after a while it hangs like always. And there is nothing to du than reboot the machine. To daniewicz. I have looked at the Xorg.0.log but as far as I know I can not see there is any error in the file again thx for helping. daniewicz
Maybe your video card is operating in the wrong AGP mode? Maybe some settings in the BIOS need to be adjusted (like Fast Writes or SBA)? What do you see when you type: cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status
toxic
when i cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status it gives me "AGP initialization failed, please check the ouput of the 'dmesg' command and/or your system log file for additional information on this problem." But I updated mdk and I do not have any problem at all.
