Darkelve
From: Asa DotzlerNewsgroups: netscape.public.mozilla.roadmap Subject: Firefox No More Date: Thu, 1 Apr 2005 01:23:45 -0800 Over the past year and a half, the project currently known as Firefox has brought great joy to millions of Internet users around the world, but in the Mozilla community, it's caused great strife. As a consequence of this, there's been a split in the developer community, and it's crippling development. As has been shown in the history of this industry, you can't survive without developers, while users will use almost anything. So the decision has been made to end Firefox. The development towards 2.0 will end as of Friday this week, so that people currently working on patches can finish that work. From now on, all work will concentrate on Seamonkey. There will be no further work on Firefox, Thunderbird, or any other project. We cannot afford to have a split community of developers, so we must all rally behind Seamonkey. There will be no tolerance of division within the ranks, and these rules will be strictly enforced. All Firefox merchandise will be sold until the current stocks run out, because we can't get our money back on it. Besides, the plush Firefoxes are cute. This decision was not made lightly, but has the full backing of myself, Gervase Markham, Mitchell Baker, Blake Ross, Ben Goodger, Santa Claus, and the curly haired guy who sits in the corner. Thanks for your time. --Asa

daniewicz
All kidding aside, isn't the opposite actually true? From what I have seen on the MozillaZine forums. the Mozilla suite (Seamonkey) will be developed no further, with all efforts instead focused on Firefox and Thunderbird.
