Darkelve
http://www.ffii.org/~bkaindl/votes/ Now why didn't I find this sooner? A few examples already that might suffer: http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/index.html http://www.freepascal.org/fpc_noswpat.html

theYinYeti
Thanks Darkelve for the links. I'll look at all that this evening, and probably do something like this pascal compiler site did. I also realized that I infringed a number of granted patents on my web site! Yves.
Artificial Intelligence
What happen if the patient law become a reality? Isn't it possible to have all these files on Asians/africans servers instead?
a13x
http://www.shanseifan.com/Famille/05_Murie...xembourg9cu.jpg Let's raise some billions and buy ourselves a law against M$. Now ... on topic. Let's say the retards pass that stupid law. If all European software projects are relocated to servers in Africa, Asia or NON-EU Europe (as AI said) can they continue to function ? sellis
Well, I went for the scattershot approach. Find out all the MEPs for my region, and write to them all. Good old physical letters, too, with real stamps - less likely to be ignored than e-mail. It's worth the couple of quid and a couple of hours to help defeat this, even if it does mean asking for help from the Tories... :-) Edit - Now also uploaded to my website, for the delight of the 7 people who actually ever visit it... http://homepage.ntlworld.com/seanellis/ Edited March 11, 2005 by sellis
adamw
sean: Mine seem remarkably responsive to email. I'm in Canada but still a UK citizen, so I wrote to all mine (I'm from the North West) and got replies from four of 'em. One's definitely opposed to the proposal (Labour), the UKIP guy gave me a long bit of self-promotion which I *think* boiled down to being opposed, one (Labour) said nothing to indicate his position, and the last one (leader of Labour MEPs, apparently) was extremely diplomatic but seemed to be hinting he had no strong position on patents themselves but was not happy with the Commission overriding JURI. Quite promising :). No replies from Tories yet, surprise surprise. Do they know what email is? Edited March 11, 2005 by adamw
sellis
In the past few days, I've had 3 replies from MEPs: Conservatives (a bit noncommittal, wait-and-see), Greens (anti) and UKIP (very short and anti). I've updated my web page to include scans of the letters, so you can make up your own minds about what they have to say.
sellis
Had another reply from a MEP today, this time Labour's Peter Skinner. No word yet from the Lib Dems, though, which is disappointing. Oh, and I've OCR'd all the replies now, too, for all you grep-junkies out there... web page still in the same place.

theYinYeti
Information for French-speaking people: Instead of going to ffii.org, go to http://www.ffii.fr ! This site is better IMO, not because it is in French, but because IMHO things are better organized, and better explained. Yves. [edit:]As expected, I added a new front-page to my site.[/edit] Edited April 13, 2005 by theYinYeti
