LinuxMWB
I've searched google, this forum, and several others I haunt. However, how can I tell what version of Linux I've installed without rebooting? Or, if the splash screen 'lies'.. Situation.. Need to resetup my Media using EZ Urpmi.. It asks for the version.. I've cusomized my splash and can't remember if it is 10.0, 10.1, Community? Official? Is there a BASH command? I know uname -a, however it does not say ther version.. uname -aLinux localhost 2.6.8.1-10mdk #1 Wed Sep 8 17:00:52 CEST 2004 i686 Celeron (Mendocino) unknown GNU/Linux This is what I get... Kernel info and such, 'unknown' version tho.... Thanks upfront, LinuxMWB [moved from Tips & Tricks by spinynorman]

Official? $ cat /etc/redhat-release (Yeah, it's not Redhat, but like almost all Redhat-descended distros it retains redhat-version for this purpose.) pmpatrick
$ cat /etc/redhat-release Mandrakelinux release 10.1 (Official) for i586 I think your kernel was 10.1 Community Edition but running the above should tell you.
adamw
the same file also exists as /etc/mandrake-release if typing redhat offends your sensibilities. :D
