adamw
there are some linux alternatives...have a look at linuxsms, it's packaged for MDK, in contrib I think. it's console, but there's a frontend called glinuxsms.
aioshin
thanks adamw, for the info.. I never thought of the word linuxsms. I've installed it now from contrib as what you have said...Iĺl just try to find out what it can really do.. tnx again
adamw
read the documentation, it should wind up in /usr/share/doc I think or you can just google for the website. It can be a bit tricky as you have to find a free SMS website that it can work with - a couple of years ago there were tons of free SMS websites that apps like this could script easily, nowadays they've all wised up and reimplemented the service so you can't script it :\. there's still a couple of obscure sites you can get linuxsms to work with but it's not as easy as it used to be. sigh. ramfree17
good to see another pinoy on the board. afaik, nobody was able to make the official chikka client run on linux. there was a java version but it depended on the MS java runtime classes (kinda ironic). on the philippine linux user group list, there was a discussion way back about reverse-engineering the protocol used by chikka. somebody said he snopped the traffic and said it was relatively easy to 'discover'. ciao! Arvin Juan
Has anyone tried to install this chix plugin? I am getting an error when I try to run './configure': checking for GAIM_CFLAGS... checking for GAIM_LIBS... configure: error: Gaim 1.0 and above is required. I have already installed Gaim but still get the same error.
Arvin Juan
I have just found out from ramfree17 that I need to install gaim-devel as well. I'll try to install this tonight and see what happens.
Arvin Juan
I was able to run './configure' but when I run the 'make' command I got this error: chix_gaim.c:954: error: initializer element is not constant chix_gaim.c:954: error: (near initialization for 'info.summary') chix_gaim.c:955: error: initializer element is not constant chix_gaim.c:955: error: (near initialization for 'info.description') chix_gaim.c: In function 'init_plugin': chix_gaim.c:972: warning: passing argument 1 of 'gaim_account_option_bool_new' makes pointer from integer without a cast chix_gaim.c:975: warning: passing argument 1 of 'gaim_account_option_string_new' makes pointer from integer without a cast chix_gaim.c:978: warning: passing argument 1 of 'gaim_account_option_int_new' makes pointer from integer without a cast make[2]: *** [chix_gaim.lo] Error 1 make[2]: Leaving directory `/root/chix_gaim-1.0.0/src' make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/root/chix_gaim-1.0.0' make: *** [all-recursive-am] Error 2 Attached is the complete log of the error I encountered. Could anyone help me to fix this? chix_make_error.txt
aioshin
No idea... but as we know, gaim is now pidgin, so there might be some code changes being made, and I have'nt seen any update from the chix author. You may try their Java Player instead.
