Jet2k5
ok after trying this is what I got, # rpm -ivh --force fglrx_6_8_0-8.10.19-1.i386.rpm Preparing... ########################################### [100%] 1:fglrx_6_8_0 ########################################### [100%] FATAL: Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/2.6.8.custom/kernel/drivers/char/drm/fglrx.ko): No such device FATAL: Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/2.6.8.custom/kernel/drivers/char/drm/fglrx.ko): No such device sounds pretty serious, I'm new to mdk ... I was going to give that source rpm a try, but that gave me even more errors. Any Ideas? -Luis
solarian
I got a simmilar problem. But it can be gotten to work (it works for me). This is what I did and maybe you should too: 1. su root (terminal) 2. log out of X (init 3) 3. run fglrxconfig, follow the steps 4. run mcc and choose your monitor (fglrxconfig generated a dirty xorg.conf file) 5. with emacs (or simmilar) open your /etc/x11/xorg.conf file 6. scroll down to the monitor section and scan for anything that is not related to your monitor (hint. watch out for sony valyo or smthing simmilar) 7. delete that 8. see that everywhere it is monitor0, display0 and screen0 9. if there is a different number, change it to 0 10. scroll to the graphics card section and delete any other card (if there is such) (hint. VGA), leave only ATI 11. save file 12*(optional) sacriface a goat to linux gods 13. $kde and see if it works (if x loads) ----- If X has loaded then: 14. in a terminal: fglrxinfo and glxgears p.s. on fglrxinfo you should get smthing like this: $ fglrxinfodisplay: :0.0 screen: 0 OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc. OpenGL renderer string: RADEON 9000 DDR Generic OpenGL version string: 1.3.4893 (X4.3.0-8.10.19) Edited February 23, 2005 by solarian
Jet2k5
ok, thanks!! well I actually fixed the problem by switching to the stock kernel and that worked right out of the box :). But now when I went to startx, it says that ' no screens found ', which I can relate to your last post, so I will try and fix it as soon as I'm done with my bk. -Luis Edited February 23, 2005 by Jet2k5
solarian
I'm attaching my xorg.conf (xfconfig) file, so you can see how it looks. p.s. if still not working, delete any long strings of monitor resolutions under your real monitor in the file (I use only one resolution, so it is fine for me) XF86Config.tar.gz Edited February 23, 2005 by solarian

Jet2k5
I think it would be nice if you can stop in #musb on irc.freenode.net, instead of having to post every 5 minutes a 10 minute chat shouldn't be too bad , could it? I'm in there right now ... lol I'm in there 24/7. -Luis

Jet2k5
Just a quick note to anyone that has an ATI Mobility Card. The only Mobility cards supported are M9 and up, anything below that ( like the m6, in my case ) are NOT SUPPORTED . The best thing that you can do is compile the kernels radeon drivers into the kernel, if you want to do that contact me and I will give you a great how to on how to do it. Guest Manta_Prox2
Swerver, In other guides re: ATI drivers and ML 10.1 I have read that you need to recompile the kernel to include dri, tmpfs, agpgart (for you chipset). Did you have to recompile your kernel at all before attempting this install?
solarian
Work for me without recompiling $ fglrxinfodisplay: :0.0 screen: 0 OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc. OpenGL renderer string: RADEON 9000 DDR Generic OpenGL version string: 1.3.4893 (X4.3.0-8.10.19)
Guest Manta_Prox2
Solarian, Thanks for the reply. I'll give it a go tonight when I get home from work. Also forgot to mention that I am on a fresh install of ML 10.1 OE so everything is virgin and ready for me to try this guide. Guest Manta_Prox2
Solarian, Yep just hand a quick wander back over the posts in this thread. I'll keep an eye out for that particular problem. Or I'll just do a wander through the xorg.conf to see if everything looks in place for my hardware. I hope this guide works for me, because this will be the 3rd guide that I have tried out. All from fresh installs, as I'm unsure how to remove the old drivers once I have messed up a driver install.
Guest Lysit
Did everything as in guide, no errors came up but now there appears to be no acceleration. Tried to run ut2004, splash screen came up then quit after a few seconds, tux racer is horrendously slow, obviously using software rendering. My card is a 9600xt. Anyone got any ideas, and yes I'm new to linux so don't really know what to do in anycase. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ***UPDATE*** Ok did the following [finch@localhost finch]$ fglrxinfo display: :0.0 screen: 0 OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.5 Mesa 6.2.1) doesn't appear to want to use the new drivers, any ideas?
