Mplayer

Hello everyone,

after having my MDK set as I wanted, I thought, I uninstalled an application, which apparently had an important file(s) to boot into KDE. So of couse, being new to all this I reinstalled. During installation I noticed Mplayer was being installed, along with it's streaming audio/video counterparts. However, I am unable to locate that program. Any ideas how I could find where its located as well as make a desktop icon for it?

Thank you very much,

Same thing with me, I installed from RPMDrake (mplayer-1.0.0pre6.7plf but it disappeared after the installation said "installation is completed". But where are they?

BUT I found mplayer folder in /usr/lib, but it doesn't have application in the folder... I am unable to find where mplayer application... You may try to check yours...

Guess somebody can help to find where is the application??

:help:

The easy way to make a desktop icon is to right click on the desktop - create new - link to application and the rest is pretty easy. You'll find the executable (I hope that's the right word) in /usr/bin that's where most if not all the executables are. That's where mine are anyway.

I have it installed and running.....and I didn't add it to menudrake myself. At least I don't think I did.

Anyway, the command in there to run it is as follows:

/usr/bin/gmplayer -quiet -nofs

To find it you might want to either do what I do and open a terminal window and type "slocate mplayer" (without the quotes of course), if you do it this way you might want to "su" and "updatedb" to update the database first.

Or graphically open the menu - system - file tools - find files it will automatically want to look in your home so just point it to root instead (/) and it will tell you where anything on your system with the word mplayer is.

I was unable to find an executible to make an icon for mplayer. I did run updatedb as root and got the following:

updatedb

[root@gian]# mp

mpage mpartition mpeglibartsplay mplayer

[root@ gian]# mplayer

First: gmplayer is just mplayer with a gui, the package to install is mplayer-gui if I remember correctly:

urpmi mplayer-gui

or:

urpmi --fuzzy mplayer

will give you a list of options, then take your pick.

A bit silly though, to have the package called mplayer-gui, and having to call it with gmplayer...

Next,

which mplayer

should show you where the binary is. that doesn't make a big difference though, if installed it should be in your path (meaning: the system will look in all the dirs in your path to find the executable, if you try to call them from the command line. The menu however just links to the executable..), you can do

echo $PATH

to see what locations the system (well, bash, the shell really) will look.

Oh, to read manpages, you can also read them in konqueror, in the address bar, just put:

#mplayer

for the manpage to mplayer....
