pbpersson
I would think that the exact version of the Java runtime that you can use would depend upon the version of Mandrake you are using, the libraries you have in place, etc. I am using Mandrake version 10.1 and the version of the runtime I am using is as follows: Name: j2re Version: 1.4.2_05-2mdk .....and it seems to work fine. Or were you not talking about the runtime library? I searched in RPM for the word "java" and about 30 matches appeared so I might be answering the wrong question. Probably the one on the Java website is the most recent however I suggest always going with an RPM package install if you can. Phil
heather1113
1.5 will work fine on Mandrake 10.1 and the one on the website is super easy to install.

devries
On LinuxDownload the Linux version of the Java SDK. When the download is finished, execute the .bin file as root and follow the prompts. When the installation has completed, run this command in the plugins directory of your Firefox installation: ln -s /your_path_here/java/j2re1.5.0/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so libjavaplugin_oji.so You need to do: ln -s /usr/java/j2etcetc http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firebird:faq:install_java#On_Linux :)
