KDE all desktop icons/folders disappeared

hmm I just finnished downloading a 370mb file, as soon as a ran it under cedega all of my folders/icons dissapeared from my desktop, I relogged and still only see the default icons (Home,welcome,floppy, cdrom) does this mean I have to re download the 370mb file? (hopes not :( )

I've had that happen to me a few times. Sometimes if you crash the X11 server, KDE (Mandrake's implementation) will revert to its default settings. Your file is still where you left it, but you'll probably have to redo all your KDE settings.

This seems 'similar' to an ongoing issue I have with 10.1 (I've reverted to an old box running 9.2 at the mo )

 

Whats the process to 'redo all KDE settings'?

 

I wanna give this a try - nothing much more to lose at the moment.

 

EDIT: by 'redo KDE settings' do you mean uninstalling and then reinstalling
