neocytrix
Hello everyone, Can someone point me in the direction of how I would go about sharing a printer hooked up to a mandrake box, over a network so that a Windows machine can print on it. Any help is appreciated.... -Neocytrix
Guest anon
You need to install "Samba" the print and file sharing app. Its available on the CDs. More info: http://www.samba.org/
Qchem
Theres probably a mandrake wizard to help share a printer (in mcc), if you're having trouble with it post back and we'll try to help (I've only done this in gentoo). In the past I've had trouble if the client machines aren't listed in /etc/hosts so definately add those.
fissy
Later versions of Windows can use the IPP (internet printing protocol), so should be able to print using cups. In Windows control panel, I think you add a printer and give it location http://IPAddressOfMandrakeBox:631 it should work fine. Might need to install drivers in windows. phunni
I jsut tried Fissy's advice and it doesn't quite work. You need to set up a class and then put your printer into it - this can be done via the cups browser interface. You can then point your windows "printer" to http://<servername>:631/classes/<classname>
