PCMCIA WLAN card for linux

I was trying to configure my Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 on a Dell D600 but have not had much luck and after some research I find that it will be rather involved at best. I am pretty new to Linux and would like a 'quick fix' for the moment. Getting a PCMCIA WLAN card that works with Linux would be great, I could get this laptop online while I work on the PRO/Wireless.

Does anyone have experience with what cards work best? I can get a Linksys WPC11 and I saw that it was on a compatability list at: http://www.linux-wlan.org/docs/wlan_adapters.html.gz. Any thoughts? Thanks

Todd

Hi,

1. Have you downloaded the firmware from: http://ipw2100.sourceforge.net/

2. Have you downloaded the Wireless Tools from: http://ipw2100.sourceforge.net/

3. Have you torned on the Radio? (in my Dell Inspiron 8600 you did that with Fn+F2)

4. Which linux do you use? I used mandrake

We´ll start here..

Regards

Paul

Thanks for the response.

I considered updating the firmware on the 2100 but I am using a dual boot with Windows XP (i know, yuck, but I'm not ready to solo yet...) and I was afraid that that may make it inoperable with Windows. Or am I mistaken and is the firmware that you are refering to platform independant? I was on the sourceforge site and it all looked a bit intimidateing but if the firmware update does not disable that 2100 in Windows then I am more then willing to try it out.

And yes the radio is on as I do use it in windows and I also use Mandrake 10.1. Now when I go to MCC > hardware > hardware I see the 2100 listed under ethernet cards.
