USB pen drive problem

Hi. Any help would be most appreciated.

I recently did a clean install of MDK 10.1OE. In preparation for this install, I backed up any important files like bookmarks, .bashrc, etc, onto my usb pen drive. The device worked fine in 10.0 OE. After the install, I stuck the drive in the USB slot, and typed cd /mnt/removable, which worked fine. However, when I attempted to list the files on the drive, nothing appeared to be there.

So, I tried the usb drive on another computer running XP pro, and it worked fine, all files were accessible. Apparently the device is working fine.

I then went back to mandrake and typed mount /mnt/removable (never had to do this in the past, but worth a shot), and, after a bit of a wait, I got the following error: "/dev/sda1 is not a valid block drive". I have no idea what that means, or how to proceed from here. If you have any ideas or suggestions I'd love to hear them. I researched the error on google, but could not come up with any definitive answers that worked for me. I will certainly post any system information needed.

Thanks in advance.
