Hi

It's a known thing (at least i know it happens a lot)

All yo have to do (usually helps me) - CTRL+ALT+F1 to go to the non graphycal terminal, login as root, then run passwd [your_user_name]

enter your password and the problem will disappear forever. just remeber to go back to CTRL+ALT+F7 and press CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE to restart the X

CTRL+ALT+F1 to go to the non graphycal terminal, login as root, then run passwd [your_user_name]

- It refuse my admin login (the one we see on the graphical window)

- I could log using "root" and only make a new password.

- I see that I'm loged as root on the non graphycal terminal.

using the command : passwd [my_user_name] I obtain "unknown user name" !!

so I can't modify the user name / password.....

just remeber to go back to CTRL+ALT+F7 and press CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE to restart the X

when I come back with Ctrl+alt+F7 I obtain the window with the original login name and It refuse always any password......

ctrl+alt+backspace ok for restarting.....

but I have always my original login name show on the windows, nothing else, and It don't accept any password....

is it possible to create a new admin user name and it's password, and returning on the graphical window, to see it ?

sorry , I promiss you I try to do my best.......

many thanks to your help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DO NOT RUN LINUX AS ROOT!

There is no need to create a new admi user. Simply create your regular user and be donw with it. Use root when needed by switching user (su) in a terminal. I run my regular user all of the time, never my "admin" or root!!! You can make inadvertant mistakes that as a user will not hurt the system, but as root can render your computer unbootable.

OK

CTRL+ALT+F1

login as root

# useradd [your_user] (where "[your_user]" is YOUR user name, like : useradd ericyopyop)

then:

#passwd ericyopyop

Enter new password: (you enter your new password here)

again: (type the password again)

then CTRL+ALT+F7, CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE, login as ericyopyop with your newly created password
