I hope it's OK to post success stories here. I think it can still help people.

I've had Mandrake 10.0 for the past 3 months or so, and even though I could use my ASUS P4R800-VM motherboard OK, I could not get my on-board LAN or audio to work. This appears to be a well known problem with this particular motherboard. I had a lot of sleepless nights thanks to that linux-unfriendly motherboard (bought before I even thought of using Linux). Of course being a total newb doesn't help

As a workaround I stuck in an old realtek ethernet card and an old soundblaster soundcard and used them, but the motherboard only has 3 PCI slots, and I'm also using another slot for a TV card (which I got to work, BTW). I decided to do someting about it....

So... I formatted, and installed Mandrake 10.1 at the weekend, and guess what? Both the on-board audio and LAN worked first time! :D

I didn't think a 0.1 "upgrade" would make so much difference, but it did. So the reason I'm posting?

If you have the same motherboard as me and have lost half your hair in the past few months..... install Mandrake 10.1

This forum is GREAT, BTW. :thanks:

I've had a quite similar experience with an ASUS A7V600-X board. It uses the VIA KT600 chip.

On most distributions my drive gets recognized wrongly as hde1 and non-used SATA drives are also recognized although none are connected.

It is only with Mandrake 10.1 it is correctly recognized as hda1.

regards,

Helmut
