Mouse & Keyboard stop working

Hi All.

I have a problem thats started in the last week. After about 15 minutes of Mandrake 10.1 OE running the Mouse and Keyboard stop working. Linux is running fine in the background but I can't do any thing. After a bit longer the screen saver comes on and then I have to reboot.

The only thing I have changed in the last week is I installed the latest Nvidia drivers.

The mouse thing started happenng a few days after the graphics driver install tho.

Any help would be wicked.

Thanks heaps

can you post the contents of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file here, please? there are a few options that you can add in there & might need to make Nvidia drivers play nicely with MDK. it could be as simple as editing that file a bit, to get you back to normal. i need to see it first, though.

ok, here's the "device" section from my xorg.conf. try entering what i have highlighted in red to your xorg.conf, exactly as it looks in mine.

Section "Device"

    Identifier "device1"

    VendorName "NVidia"

    BoardName "NVIDIA GeForce4 (generic)"

    Driver "nvidia"

    Option "DPMS"

    Option "NvAGP" "3"

    Option "NoLogo" "1"

EndSection

that option specifies to use kernel AGP support first, if that fails, then use Nvidia AGP. other options you can use are.......

"0" (uses no agp support)

"1" (uses nvidia agpart only)

"2" (tries kernel agpart only)

note: you don't have to do this edit by killing X & using vim (or whatever). you can use a text editor in GUI to make the edit. you will have to restart X for the option to take effect.

Well as to date none of the above have worked, although I'm stoked I got rid of that Nvidia splash screen on start up.

Also when they start not responding unplugging the replugging the USB cable does noting.

I have plugged in the PS2 connection for my mouse as I have a choice and will see if just the keyboard which is still USB stops on its own.

Does anyone havea ny other ideas? :help:

I'm guessing. Since it's only my mouse that does it, and plugging it back in fixes it, but all of your usb devices fail, it must be the hardware. What other devices are connected? Check your irq stats in harddrake.

How do I chek the IRQ status?

Also I have found that the scroll wheel has stopped working.

I have also told Mandrake that its a USB mouse and it has not happened since.

But not matter what I chamge the type of mouse too it won't give my my wheel back :wall:

Does your computer have PS/2 keyboard and mouse ports? Can your keyboard and mouse be used that way (adapter: usb to ps/2, usually 1 for each)??

If the answer is 'yes' to both, or, you have a ps/2 keyboard and ps/2 mouse, then do so until you can figure out what is causing the problem, and you fix it.

My Logitech Cordless iTouch Duo can be used either way. I just prefer to use the dedicated mouse and keyboard ports (ps/2).
