neilinoz
I've tried everything. I've downloaded heaps of files from "Install Software" which appeared to be all the right codecs but nothing has happenned. I'm trying to listen to streaming audio from online radio stations as well as my favourite Radio station here in Australia (ABC Newsradio). Virtually all of these places have streaming for .ram (Real Audio) or .asx (Windows Media). When I click on the Windows media link, Firefox opens a new tab... and then does nothing. When I click the Real Audio link, the default application starts (Totem) which does nothing. When I have changed it to Xine or Noatun, the same nothing happens. I also downloaded XMMS. Same problem - except that when I click on the .ram link XMMS opens and then it asks me which file on my PC I would like to open. This is not user friendly stuff at all. What do I need to download so that Totem or Xine or XMMS immediately plays .ram streaming audio when I click on it? SoulSe
Real Audio makes their Real Player for Linux. Just install that.
neilinoz
Went to the Mozilla site, clicked on plugins, clicked on Real, clicked on RPM link. Install software took care of the RPM. It's located in usr/local/Realplayer. And it doesn't work. I click on the Realplayer.bin execution file and nothing happens. I go into Firefox and tell it to use the .bin file to open .ram files.... nothing happens. I go into konsole and the following occurs: SCIM: im_module_init free(): invalid pointer 0x82e3938! /usr/bin/realplay: line 75: 9080 Segmentation fault $REALPLAYBIN "$@"
Artificial Intelligence
If I'm not mistaken there's realplayer on PLF (setup urmpi) Another way: Download Realplayer here: http://www.real.com/linux/ su <your root password> cd <where you downloaded the file> chmod 700 RealPlayer10GOLD.bin ./RealPlayer10GOLD.bin These options will appear: (make sure you have the privileges as user where you install it. jameswong
There is conflict between SCIM and Realplayer. You can try uninstall SCIM and see whether you can use RealPlayer. Instead I use xine to play asx streams insteal of Real.
bvc
I installed the rpm from http://www.real.com/ rpm -ivh RealPlayer10GOLD.rpm then installed real-codecs from plf urpmi real-codecs all is working I see this on plf but I don't know if it's the player or codecs?????? helixplayer-real-codecs ftp://ftp.proxad.net/pub/Distributions_Li...rake/10.1/i586/ I see no realplayer though
adamw
I use the real.com packages, but I think the way it works if you're using MDK / PLF is this - install helixplayer package in contrib (HelixPlayer is the completely free version of the player with no Real codecs, so it goes in contrib) then install helixplayer-real-codecs from PLF and you've basically got RealPlayer - i.e., it adds Real codecs to HelixPlayer, which is all RealPlayer is. neilinoz
Added helixplayer via "Install Software" from PLF. Modified Firebird. It is currently working. Thanks everyone!
