After thinking about this for a while, I stand corrected by AI: the only way to get games come to Linux is to buy them! :deal: BTW I am downloading the "Dominions 2" demo right now! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'll help :P although it seems you've given up already lol
Darkelve
Im in <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Iphitus, you are 'in' what? After thinking about this for a while, I stand corrected by AI: the only way to get games come to Linux is to buy them! :deal: BTW I am downloading the "Dominions 2" demo right now! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'll help :P although it seems you've given up already lol <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, at first I thought it was a good idea. But: there is so little intrest in these games and if we play these free old(er) games, this way no money will flow to the Linux gaming community. So I'm afraid my idea would slow down, rather than accellerate the coming of modern games to Linux. It's simple really, all we have to do is buy Linux versions of popular games. And I hate saying this, but it is probably even better if it is a game from a very rich and popular game company, because they set the trends. Although all Linux sales are a boon. I still think the idea was okay, only it will probably not obtain the results I wanted to reach...

chocobanana
Greetings Here are some links you'll find of most interest: http://www.planeshift.it -> Nice looking mmorpg, although I haven't tryed it yet http://www.openttd.com -> Fancy transport tycoon deluxe? This one works perfectly and it even extends the functionality of the original. To have it working, you need to grab it as abandonware here: www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=1631 http://www.happypenguin.org -> check this out for many other linux games Of course I also think that there's a huge lack of modern games for linux and Game studios an publishers support for this platform is essencial. But while we wait there's already something to entertain us in the links above ;-)
pmpatrick
The Curse of Monkey Island also plays perfectly on scummvm but you need the cds. Lucas Arts has been very pricky about releasing anything to the public domain, no matter how old. I see things getting much better for linux gaming as more companies move to Open GL instead of DirectX(ut2003 & 2004, Doom3). It's relatively easy to port Open GL games to linux. And the reason that Open GL is attractive to gaming companies is it's also very easy to port Open GL games to gaming consoles. Hopefully this trend will continue. Guest Fizx
I think you have a very good idea going there!! The more games working on Linux the better, even if its abandonware!! It will hopefully attract more people to the Linux platform, instead of putting dos on the old computer to play old games, put Linux on there!
