Guest exo-bot
Hi there, I'm trying to get my WPC54G 802.11g pcmcia wireless card to work with ndiswrapper, I following the instructions as it said, and in 10.1 there didn't seem to be the old version included like it said on the sourceforge site, however I carried on, but when i tried "make install" after su -l i got this: [root@192 ndiswrapper-0.12]# make install make -C driver install make[1]: Entering directory `/home/tom/Desktop/ndiswrapper-0.12/driver' Can't find kernel sources in /lib/modules/2.6.8.1-12mdk/build; give the path to kernel sources with KSRC=<path> argument to make make[1]: *** [prereq_check] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/tom/Desktop/ndiswrapper-0.12/driver' make: *** [install] Error 2 [root@192 ndiswrapper-0.12]# Any ideas? kde-head
you need to install the kernel source code. looks like you are using version 2.6.8.1-12mdk In KDE select STAR -> System -> Configuration -> Packaging -> Install Software Type in "kernel" , hit Search , scroll down - you'll see package called kernel-source-2.6-2.6.8-1-12mdk select that , click on install. But before going down the ndiswrapper route, are you sure there arent any linux drivers for your card? did mandrake detect anything during installation? the ndiswrapper stuff is complex, mainly because there are old bits of ndiswrapper lurking around the 10.1 install - there's a thread on this board that describes how to clean out the old ndiswrapper completely. But i would seriously advise you to find out if there are native linux drivers first, before using ndiswrapper.
Guest exo-bot
Sorry about the long reply, I was away :) Thanks very much for your help kde-head! I'm about 99% certain there isn't any linux drivers for that card, I got it working with a ndiswrapper RPM that was on disk3 (I think), however that is an old version - is it worth installing the new one? I'm not at my house right now, but I'll do as you say and report back then ;) - I'm guessing you need to uninstall the current ndiswrapper first? I'm guessing follow the second half of this page : http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/phpwiki...x.php/Uninstall Or is there a better/easier way? Thanks very much for your help... Qchem
If you've got everything working ok I wouldn't bother with the upgrade! If you do decide to go for it, this thread may help in uninstalling the old version.
iphitus
If it aint broke, dont fix it the new one will offer you nothing new if the old one works. New one could break it too :D
