Gowator
OK one thing I keep messing up is a mail server.... Ive screwed it up so many times now I have a mental block... I used to have my own mail server running under SME-server and the world was good. Then I moved my DNS/NFS/WEB/DHCP ... all onto a more powerful PC.. (this was on a PII-266)... I have tried, tried again and fluncked... I just want to setup a mail server to send and receive mail for my own domain (well dnsdns) ... Ive now got exim4 sending mail from command line... (using sendmail alias) but I still can't even check the account via kmail.... Im pulling my hair out.... this shouldn't be so hard.... anyone got a step by step real idiots guide? I feel so stupid ....

jlc
These might help: Configure exim4 to deliver email to a user's Maildir folder in their home directory. http://www.togaware.com/linux/survivor/Email_Maildir.shtml http://www.togaware.com/linux/survivor/Exim.shtml THis is pretty good and has a ton of info (talks about setting up exim for linux/NT domain) still good info: http://www.flatmtn.com/computer/Linux-EmailServer.html http://www.flatmtn.com/computer/Linux-Exim4.html http://www.flatmtn.com/computer/Linux-EmailServer.html
Gowator
thx cybr.. thats exactly what I need i hope... Nothijg tells you if you need courier-imap etc. installed on the EXOM and whether it is just a MTA etc. sometimes after you mess something up so many times you can't see the wood for the trees :D

aru
Why use exim? use postfix instead... this is what I use in my server --which runs debian-- because I was used to postfix in mandrake and I'm too lazy to learn a different mail server system :P
Ronin
None easier to set up, or at none I've found then www.qmailrocks.org. It has very well written step by step directions.
